12th Annual MAFSM Conference Held at Maritime Insitutute. Presentations Now Available for Download.

MAFSM held our 12th annual conference on Thursday, October 20th, 2016, at the Conference Center at the Maritime Institute in Linthicum Heights, MD.  With over 140 participants, this was our best attended conference to date.  We also saw an all-time high for the number of speakers, with 38 presentations in topics including climate change resilience, green stormwater management practices, and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling methods.  With such a diverse range of topics, there was something for everyone with an interest in floodplain and stormwater management!

Of particular note was the keynote speaker, Lisa M. Craig, Chief of Historic Preservation / Planning & Zoning for the City of Annapolis, who spoke of the economic and environmental benefits of historic preservation and about planning for and adapting to sea level rise.  Another popular presentation was a panel discussion held with key staff from multiple state organizations to discuss strategies and resources to assess, plan, and mitigate flood risk in Maryland. Finally, this event would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors: AECOM, Amec Foster Wheeler, Michael Baker International, Smart Vent, Stantec, Dewberry, CJ Geo, CPJ Associates, and NTM Engineering.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, with 94% of attendees who participated in the post-conference survey rating the overall conference experience as either Excellent (59.4%) or Very Good (34.4%), but we also received some valuable suggestions that will be used to make our 2017 conference even better!

Presentations are available for download on the 2016 Conference page.
