The Maryland Association of Floodplain and Stormwater Managers (MAFSM) Annual Conference draws attendees from local, state, and federal government as well as the private sector throughout Maryland and even surrounding states. It attracts over 150 engineers, planners, water resource professionals, and NFIP Coordinators, annually.
We hosted networking opportunities, vendor exhibits, and a packed agenda with approximately 20 technical presentations.
In addition, we are offered a pre-conference training class on NFIP 101 on November 7, and proctored of the CFM Exam on November 9 – both at the Maritime Training Center! Click here to see photos from the event.

Our morning Keynote Speaker was Josh Lippert, CFM, Floodplain Management Section Supervisor: Compliance| Mitigation for FEMA Region 3. Mr. Lippert will present “Building a Resilient Future for Floodplain Management.”
Our afternoon Keynote speaker is Lori Lilly, Founder and Executive Director, Howard EcoWorks who is presenting “Making Urban Lands, Working Lands – A Multi-faceted Approach to Climate Resiliency.”

FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT PRE-WORKSHOP – November 7, 2023
MAFSM’s Floodplain Management NFIP 101 Training was held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm at the Maritime Conference Center.
The NFIP 101 Training covered topics such as the NFIP regulations, community participation in the NFIP, reading and using Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), insurance mitigation, and other topics. Ben Kaiser of AECOM and Jason Sevanick of WSP lead the training.
Five (5) Continuing Education Credits from the Association of State Floodplain Managers were granted.
*** Please note that the NFIP 101 Training is not a preparatory course for the CFM exam. Exam and Training registrations are separate. MAFSM is managing the training, while ASFPM manages all CFM exam applications.
CFM EXAM – November 9, 2023
A CFM exam was proctored by Mark James of Michael Baker International on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 9:00am until 12:00pm at the Maritime Conference Center.
